Clubs qualify based on their domestic league performance, with the strongest leagues — England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France — receiving the most places. Real Madrid are the most successful club in the competition's history, having won the trophy 15 times.

The Champions League anthem, played before every match, is one of the most recognisable pieces of music in sport. Finals have been held at iconic venues including Wembley, the Nou Camp and the Allianz Arena, regularly attracting crowds of 70,000 or more.
